Interview with Stewart Greacen
In depth profileAlong with one or two others, Stewart Greacen is one of those players who is recognised by home and away fans alike as being associated with the club.
Ask away fans to name some Morton players and big Stewart’s is one that will come up. Stewart is a whole hearted and robust defender. He has a strong physical presence and is extremely commanding in the air. He has also contributed a fair number of goals for Morton from set pieces over the years. He is one of our long serving players who has experienced the highs and lows of our attempts over the last few years to win promotion back to what most Morton fans would see as our rightful place in Scottish football. It is also fair to say that many of our fans see him as one of our most improved players since coming under the management and guidance of Davie Irons and Derek Collins. His performances towards the end of season 2007/2008 contributed in no small measure to the club successfully avoiding relegation and he is a key player for us. Stewart was born in Carluke and started playing football with a local boys club at the age of 7. At 14 he was signed on S forms by Rangers and then in 1998 at the age of 16, joined the now defunct Airdrie. In 2000 he went to Livingston and during his three years there had loan spells with Morton and Forfar. He was signed by Cowboy McCormick for Morton at the start of the 2003/2004 season and made his debut as our player in a 3-1 victory over Airdrie United. His first goal for the club came later that season in a 4-0 victory over Arbroath at Gayfield. Stewart is presently engaged and when he is not playing football, enjoys a game of golf and is a fair snooker player.
