GMFC Webcasts

Information on how to participate in our Webcasts

We provide a fully interactive audio service live from Cappielow on Home match days. We also provide some live video from Cappielow, but not during play.

You can provide feedback and ask questions during the game and are also able to converse with the other subscribers in the room by means of text. If you have a microphone, you will be invited to use that to communicate in the room before the kick-off, at half-time, and again at full-time. If you have a webcam, then you will be able to put that to use at these specific times also. Please note that you do NOT have to have a mic or webcam to subscribe to this service. The rules
Nothing but common sense really. The room will be a G-Rated room. This means that any swearing should be automatically wiped out by the system. However, if you attempt to swear, then you will have your ability to type in the room removed for 5 minutes. Repeated attempts to swear after this 5 minute ban on typing will result in you being ejected from the room for good. Also, don't try to jump the mic during the game.

The requirements
We have done extensive testing on this system over the past 2 years and believe it to be the best around. At the Cappielow end, we will be using only a 56kb dial-up for the events, and we don't expect to even get a connection greater than 40kb. The other subscribers in the room will have a good mix of either broadband or dial-up at various speeds.

The Software
You will need to Go to www.paltalk.com and Register & Download the software there. This software is FREE.

There are 2 options available with this software - the free version and the premium version. It won't matter too much which option you choose and you can always upgrade to the premium option later if you like. The main difference between the 2 options is that there are pop-ups generated with the free version which can become tedious at times, and you will only be able to see "still" images instead of moving video.

If you want to upgrade to the premium service it will cost $29.95 per annum. This will remove the pop-ups and let you see moving video. The free option will be adequate for this service.

Please ensure that you set up the software properly - in particular there are special settings for those of you who use firewalls or certain virus checkers. Sometimes firewalls can block the necessary ports which paltalk uses to transmit the audio and video.

There are help pages on the paltalk website for most types of firewall and they give instructions on how to let paltalk work in conjunction with these firewalls. Please be sure that you have got this all sorted out BEFORE we you subscribe the the service we are offering. If you have any problems, then please e-mail The Webmaster at Webmaster@gmfc.net and we'll try to help.

There are also several paltalk "help" groups which are run by paltalk staff who will endeavour to sort out any individual problems that you may have.

Subscribing to the service
Once you have set up the software and got your user-id, go to the Fixtures page and look for the games that you can subscribe to.
  • Each match will cost you £2.75 per game.
  • Click the necessary "subscribe" buttons and follow the instructions there.
  • We hope to introduce a "season ticket" at a later date if the service proves to be popular.
  • You will be given a password for the day of the subscription that you have chosen.
  • Please make a careful note of this password as you will NOT be able to gain access to the service without it.
  • Please note that you should subscribe to the service AT LEAST 24 hours prior to the kick-off.
How to access the service
The room will be open at least 15 minutes before kick-off on the day of the games, so log on early if you can to get the best out of the service. All you have to do is log on to Paltalk and wait for an invitation to enter the room. This is why it is important that you supply your Paltalk ID at the time of subscription - if you don't supply the ID or supply an incorrect ID then we wont be able to find you and invite you to the room.

After you receive the invite, you may be asked to supply the password in order to enter the room, or, you will be asked for the password when you get into the room. If you do not supply the correct password then you will not be able to enter the room, or will be ejected from the room if you are already in there.

As with most things related to the internet, there are times when it just wont work.

Whilst the Paltalk servers are generally very reliable, there are times of maintenance and the occasional hardware failure. In the event of this or any other problems on the day of the webcast, we will have a fallback text service available on MSN messenger and you will be able to subscribe to another match free of charge.

In order to access this fallback service, install MSN messenger and add user ID Andy_1874@hotmail.com and send me a private message giving me your paltalk id and the password for the day.

What it will look like...
Paltalk Screen Grab

  • The left hand panel is where you will see the live pictures.
  • You will also be able to switch on your own cam so that others in the room will be able to see you.
  • The banner at the top is scrollable and will contain Team News.
  • The centre panel is where you will be able to see text input from others in the room (just like a standard chat program).
  • You type in the bottom panel.
  • The right hand panel lists the people in the room - by right clicking on an individual, this will present a number of options like "ignore", "private chat" .. etc.
  • If a red dot appears against your name then it means that your ability to type in the room has been removed - so behave ! Remember that there may be kids in the room.
  • In the blue area along the bottom there are various controls which are pretty well self explanatory. For instance, if you want to talk on the mic you can click the "req talk" icon - this will make a hand appear against your name.
  • To talk on the mic, right click anywhere in the blue area at the bottom and hold the mouse button down while you talk. Another way to talk is to hold the Ctrl button down while you talk into the mic.
  • If you do intend to use the mic, then please make sure that you have calibrated it properly beforehand.
PLEASE NOTE that if you attempt to jump the mic while the game is in progress then you will be "red dotted" and your voice capability will be removed.

Repeated attempts to jump the mic will result in a ban from the room for 24 hours - so you will miss the rest of the transmission for that match.
