BREAKING | Nicky Cadden signs for Morton

Greenock Morton Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Nicky Cadden on a one-year contract that runs until 10 June 2020.

The 22-year-old started his senior career with Airdrieonians and moved to Livingston in the summer of 2016 after three seasons with the Diamonds.

Former Motherwell youth player Cadden made 94 appearances in all competitions for the West Lothian outfit across League One, the Championship, and the Premiership as they clinched back-to-back promotions.

Current Ton boss David Hopkin was the man who took the Belshill-born wideman to Livi, from whom he spent time on loan at Ayr last term, and targeted his former charge as soon as it became apparent he was available.

Hopkin told gmfc.net: “Nicky is a great signing for the club. He’s a fantastic player with great ability. He had four or five options, but he knows how I work and I know that I can get the best out of him.

“I signed him from Airdrie when I was at Livingston when we were in League One. We had a lot scouts and and people watching games. We watched Sean [Crighton] and Alan Lithgow for Airdrie.

“Nicky was a young boy at the time – I think he was part-time and in and out doing a university degree – and he caught our eye.

“He was a traditional wide player: he wants to get the ball, run at people, and get deliveries in the box, and what he achieved after coming to Livi at such a young age, getting double promotions, shows he’s a winner.

“He was a massive player for us. He and Josh Mullin were fantastic for us in the wide areas, so he knows how I want to play and I’m delighted he’s going to be with us at Morton next season.”
