Caolan McAleer leaves Cappielow

Winger Caolan McAleer has today been allowed to leave the club in order to return home to Northern Ireland with his contract set to expire at the turn of the year.

The 23-year-old made three starts and nine substitute appearances in his five months with the club, including a final 14-minute run-out off the bench in last Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Dunfermline Athletic.

Jim Duffy told gmfc.net: “We had a chat this week and we’ve allowed Caolan to leave the club. He was contracted until January 4, so rather than keep him here and not involve him in the games, we’re allowing him to go home to Northern Ireland.

“Caolan is a terrific boy and certainly gave it his best shot. It was just down to lack of first-team opportunities. We thank him for his contribution and wish him well.”
