Chris Millar signs one-year contract extension

We are delighted to report that midfielder Chris Millar has today put pen to paper on a new one-year contract to extend his stay with the club until 10 June 2020.

The 36-year-old originally joined the club in February 2003 after leaving Celtic and went on to make 204 starts, 11 substitute appearances, and score 35 goals before signing with St Johnstone in May 2008.

After a decade of service at McDiarmid Park, in which time he lifted the Scottish Cup, Millar returned to the Ton last summer, making a further 36 appearances and reaching a landmark 250 appearances.

Greenock gaffer David Hopkin was thrilled that the experienced midfielder was keen to sign on again at Cappielow for another season.

Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net today, he said: “Chris has signed for another year and we’re absolutely delighted to have him on board.

“He’s a top-class football player with a great wealth of experience – he’s a ball player that likes to keep possession and get forward.

“I’ve mentioned that we are trying to build a squad that is going to be competitive and having an experienced professional like Chris is instrumental.

“He is a leader on and off the pitch and his experience will no doubt help some of the younger players that are looking to push themselves to try and compete for a place within the first team squad.

“He’s a great servant to the club and has made over 250 appearances. For me that’s vitally important, we need players who are committed and believe in what we are trying to achieve here.”
