Dykes is Morton’s first signing of the window

Greenock Morton Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Dylan Dykes on a six-month contract that runs until 10 June 2019.

Dylan joins the Ton as manager Jonatan Johansson’s first recruit of the January transfer window having recently departed Ross County by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last term on loan at Stranraer, making 14 appearances for the Blues in Ladbrokes League One.

Dykes left the Staggies last week following two and a half seasons in the Highlands, and Cappielow boss Johansson has moved to add the former Rangers youth to his squad following a successful trial period.

Speaking to media officer Jonathan Mitchell, he said: “Dylan Dykes is a player we watched in the reserves against Ross County, and when we found out he was available, he was a player we wanted to have a look at.

“We invited him to train, and I’ve always said that trialists are an important part of our recruitment strategy, especially with younger players. I came over to Scotland as a trialist and really believe in that method.

“I think Dylan is different from the midfielders we have. We have experience in midfield, and we were maybe looking for someone who can give us energy at certain times in certain games from the bench and the start.

“He can play across the midfield. He can play wide and at right-back as well and understands the game, and that versatility is important. He has good legs, is very good with the ball, and has good physicality.

“Dylan has that youthful hunger about him and is desperate to show that he can play at this level – and above – and comes with a good pedigree from the Rangers academy.

“He’s impressed in training and we’re giving him a chance to prove himself. He’s a signing for now and for the future. He’ll be coming into the squad straight away and it is up to him to see if he can break into the starting 11.”
