Gary Oliver signs one-year contract extension

We are delighted to report that forward Gary Oliver has today put pen to paper on a new one-year contract to extend his stay with the club until 10 June 2019.

The 22-year-old initially arrived at Cappielow on a two-year deal in June 2016 following spells with Heart of Midlothian, Stenhousemuir, and Queen of the South.

He made a total of 70 starts and nine substitute appearances over the course of his time on Sinclair Street, netting 14 goals in all competitions, before his contract expired at the end of last term.

Oliver was courted by a number of clubs, including some Ladbrokes Championship rivals and a prominent League of Ireland outfit, but turned down those offers in order to sign up for a third season with the Ton.

Speaking to media and communications officer Jonathan Mitchell, he said: “I’ve signed a year’s contract. I had a couple of options but it would have taken a lot to take me away from Morton.

“I’ve enjoyed the two seasons I’ve been here and I had a chat with the new manager Ray McKinnon and he spoke well. That played a part in me staying as well.

“Ray said he was going to make a good few new signings, and the players he’s brought in so far have been different class, a really good quality of player, so I’m really looking forward to getting started again.”
