Gavin Watt selected for Scotland schoolboys

Under-17s defender Gavin Watt has been selected to represent Scotland at under-18 schoolboy level in the 2018 Centenary Shield competition.

The centre-half, who recently made his first start for the Under-20s against Stranraer at the King George V Playing Fields in Renfrew, attended a series of area trials and a final trial before being named in 18-man squad.

Watt, a 16-year-old pupil at Inverclyde Academy, will now link up with the young Scots again to compete in March’s Centenary Shield, with one of the fixtures to be staged at Cappielow.

We play host to the Scotland squad’s opening game, against Northern Ireland here in Greenock on Friday 9 March with a 7pm kick-off.

Scotland then travel to York City’s Bootham Crest for an Auld Enemy clash with England on Friday 23 March and finally the Republic of Ireland at Home Farm in Dublin on Thursday 12 April.
