John Tennent loaned to Cumbernauld Colts

Defender John Tennent is the second player to depart the club on a temporary transfer in the last 24 hours having today completed a loan switch to Cumbernauld Colts until 4 January 2017.

Teenage forward Alex McWaters was farmed out to local junior outfit Largs Thistle yesterday afternoon, and Under-20s team-mate Tennent has followed suit by signing with the Broadwood-based Lowland League club until the turn of the year.

A right-back or centre-half, John is a product of the club’s youth academy and was a regular starter as Andy Millen’s group claimed the Development League West crown last season.

The 19-year-old has made one senior appearance to date, coming on as a late substitute in last season’s 3-1 loss to Rangers at Ibrox on Friday 11 March.

Manager Jim Duffy told gmfc.net: “With John Tennent and Alex McWaters it’s similar to what we’ve done before with the younger players. We just want to get them game time and one is going to the Lowland League and one is going to the juniors.

“Cumbernauld Colts and Largs Thistle are both good sides and it will be beneficial for the boys to spend time with those clubs to learn the game. Both of them have signed until January and we’ll look at the situation again nearer the time.”
