MATCH-DAY ATTENDANCE: CHAIRMAN’S STATEMENT

As Club Chairman, I welcome the news that SPFL Chief Executive Officer, Neil Doncaster is seeking ‘urgent talks’ with the Scottish Government with regards to the admittance of supporters to football grounds in Scotland.
The Covid pandemic has hit close to home for many of us over this last calendar year with dreadful illness and the incalculable loss of loved ones. We, at Morton FC, have not been immune to that grief having lost former players and supporters who were all a key part of the club’s story.
In my time, and indeed, in my late father’s time, I doubt if there has ever been a crisis such as we have had to deal with since the season was called to a halt last March and football was made to reassess priorities.
Football needs supporters on the terraces. We have sought the support of our local MP, MSP and Councillors to push for this to be allowed.
It is my earnest hope that progress can be made and that I can look forward to welcoming you all safely back to Cappielow Park in the near future.
Yours in sport,
Crawford Rae
Chairman
Greenock Morton Football Club.
