It was a night to forget for Morton on Friday night as they were left on the receiving end of an embarrassing 5-0 defeat at the hands of Inverness.

The first 20 minutes saw very little chances for either side in the game as both teams were attempting to put their tactical plans into play.

Jordan White had the first real chance of the game on 24 minutes as a corner was swung to the back post where White was able to find some space for a header on goal but the ball sailed off target and out for a goal kick.

Morton had their first attempt on goal after an impressive piece of skill from Luca Colville saw him dribble past two Inverness players and send an ambitious shot thundering towards goal but it was not to be as it went well over the bar.

Aaron Doran made space for himself in the Morton box on 27 minutes as his effort on goal was blocked from hitting the net and was sent out for a corner.

The Ton continued their hunt for a goal on 39 minutes as two consecutive efforts from both Aidan Nesbitt and Nicky Cadden respectively were both denied and meant the deadlock remained unbroken in the game.

However, this deadlock did not last much longer as Aaron Dolan’s shot on 43 minutes was palmed out to James Keatings who was able to finish the ball into an empty net to give Inverness the lead.

Morton’s first half performance was a much different story from the second half performance as it seemed like Inverness had found a new lease of life heading into the second half when a long pass over the top over the top of the Ton defence on 46 minutes found James Keatings who made no mistake about finishing the ball into the net for Caley Thistle’s second of the day.

But a lifeline was almost given to Morton on 57 minutes as a corner was swung into the box by Nicky Cadden and was met by a leaping Brian McLean who’s header was cleared off the line and away from danger.

Caley Thistle got their third of the day on 68 minutes as Jordan White found himself one-on-one with Morton goalkeeper Danny Rogers and slipped the ball under the Ton goalie to send Inverness further ahead.

A penalty was awarded on 69 minutes for Morton which gave Nicky Cadden the opportunity to claw a goal back for Morton but the winger attempted a chip down the middle which the goalkeeper comfortably saved.

The fourth for Inverness came on 77 minutes as a corner into the box was met by a powerful Coll Donaldson header into the back of the net.

The final goal came on 80 minutes when substitute Nikolay Todorov finished the game off with a tidy finish past goalkeeper Danny Rogers.

The team now turn their attention to a second game against Inverness in one week as they face Caley Thistle on Saturday in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.
