Morton learn Betfred Cup group opponents

We have tonight learned that we will face Motherwell, Edinburgh City, Berwick Rangers, and Queen’s Park in Group F of next season’s Betfred League Cup.

The draw for the first round of the competition was conducted live on BT Sport 2 this evening by pundits Chris Sutton and Michael Stewart.

And the Ton, who were second-level seeds, followed Premiership Well out of the hat and will also face League One Queen’s Park and League Two outfits Edinburgh City and Berwick Rangers.

Jim Duffy’s men will play each side once with finalised fixture dates, venues, and television selections to be confirmed by the SPFL next week.

The Cappielow club faced Motherwell in the same competition in season 2015/16, recording a memorable 3-2 win after extra-time thanks to Alex Samuel’s double and a Michael Tidser strike.

We hosted Borderers Berwick in last term’s group stages, with goals from Jamie Lindsay, on his competitive debut, and Jai Quitongo securing a victory.

Our last clash with Queen’s Park ended in disappointment, however, going down to a 2-0 defeat in the third round of last term’s Irn-Bru Cup

SPFL newboys Edinburgh City, on the other hand, provide fresh opposition, the clubs having never met in a competitive fixture.
