Thomas hopes fans will stay true to tradition

Thomas O’Ware thinks it’s great that the club’s supporters will both create and choose the new home kit – but hopes they will stay true to tradition by using a hooped design.

Long-serving defender O’Ware has been on the books at Cappielow since 2011 and has turned out in a variation of the horizontal stripes in each of his seven seasons.

And although the 24-year-old admits he is no artist and could not come up with his own concept, he does know that he would prefer the new strip to stick to the conventional hoops as the initial basis for the design.

When asked for his thoughts whilst helping launch the kit alongside team-mate Gary Harkins and away kit designer Peter Fleming, he said: “It’s obviously different from what other clubs do and a good idea.

“It worked with the red tartan away strip. It went down well and the fans have gone out and bought it, so hopefully the new home strip will be just as successful.

“As a player, I care about what I’m wearing on a matchday. You don’t want something horrendous looking – you want to wear a nice strip.

“But I’m not overly fussy. I would just like a nice strip that keeps the Morton colours and the tradition of the club going. Does that mean hoops? Well, I’ve always had hoops since I’ve been here.

“Whether that’s thin ones, thicker ones, it doesn’t bother me – but it’s got to be hoops, aye. Art is not my thing, so I won’t be entering the competition and will leave it to the fans.”
